So after several false starts, I managed to get past the second row. I had the same problem with my previous project.

I started with a seed stitch, also called moss stitch, for the edge and switched to stockinette stitch for the main body.

My previous project was all seed stitch. Stockinette stitch almost feels like cheating because of how easy it is to make the same stitch over and over again rather than flipping between knitting or purling on the fly.

I got some more knitting needles and yarn. I'm starting my next knit project. It shouldn't take me as long to complete. I'm going to knit some hand warmers. I'm not working off a set pattern, kind of playing it by ear but they're basically going to be squares sewed into a tube with a gap for my thumb. So hopefully they'll be too easy to mess up.

Today 45 years ago (1973) was the first labour strike in space as the astronauts on Skylab 4 refused to work for 24 hours and demanded more time to contemplate life, Earth and themselves.

Finished knitting my first knit project. I just have to join the ends and it's done.

I just rewatched Attack the Block. After I listened to the Black Men Can't Jump podcast episode about the movie, I had the urge to see it again. I was mostly watching to see John Boyega but was pleasantly surprised to see Jodie Whittaker aka The Doctor. The movie is streaming on Sony Crackle.

classic science fiction was a clever ruse to get STEM majors to learn philosophy and we really oughta bring that back

Even more progress. I'm spending today finishing off the first ball of yarn that is going into this snood scarf.

I randomly remembered that the Transformers series ran a poll where the fandom voted on a new transformers bot. and they chose a sword-wielding airplane-themed "female" autobot, named Windblade. and when the official comic came out, OF COURSE a bunch of non-transformers geek boys got REAL MAD that they made a female-led transformers comic.

anyway apparently they also put her in an animated cartoon, and she has a magical girl-style upgrade sequence:

Really, asking "what should replace Facebook" is putting things the wrong way around.

A more interesting way to ask the question is, "what did Facebook replace."

People used to build their own websites. People used to have blogs. People used USENET which was truly distributed and un-censorable.

Facebook and Google took the open internet and open standards and monetized and made everything crappy. Enough of that. Nothing should replace Facebook, it's done, stick a fork in it.

Sure friendship is great, but have you ever slipped into The Drift with a pair of scissors while you're cutting wrapping paper and you don't even have to move the blades to cut it

Every frame is a painting. The styles of animation, the colors, are simply beautiful. And the storytelling is top notch. Great music as well.

In the theater to see Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse. I thought I was running a little late and wouldn't get my preferred seating bur no one else is in the theater.

I wanted to see it in 3D because I heard the 3D is really good but my theater is only showing the 2D version. 🙁
