Feeling bad for the maintainers that have to deal with spam PR's right now.
TBH some of these seem so ludicrous and bot-like that I find it hard to believe they're actually #hacktoberfest participants. I wonder if there's something else going on - perhaps even something GitHub can analyze and moderate automatically?
Not that that helps those affected :/
DO acknowledges the problem and is also trying to handle it https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/hacktoberfest-update
They "traced the majority of this year’s spammy contributions back to a participant with a large online audience who openly encouraged their community to take part in spammy activities, including ideas on how to game the system." - so it seems like real people after all. Shame on them.
I hope DO can work with the GitHub abuse team so the cleanup doesn't fall on the maintainers.
